Individual Therapy

My style of therapy can best be described as integrative, as I draw from many treatment modalities, based on the individual needs of each client.  Generally speaking, I favor a mind-body approach to psychotherapy which provides clients with practical, concrete tools to break patterns of behavior that no longer serve them in their life. I am Committed to serving a diverse community of people. I welcome all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations and genders.

One modality I incorporate in my approach is somatic therapy. This body-oriented psychotherapy encourages and facilitates communication and connection between the mind, the emotions, and the body. This is accomplished by addressing and exploring your current emotional states of being, mental concerns, breathing patterns, and physical sensations, discomfort, and limitations. Working directly with all of these components of the human being, you begin to develop an awareness that eventually allows for disengagement of trapped emotions and stuck energy. Release, and restoration of a natural, healthy, fluid flow of energy occurs giving rise to a more authentic sense of self and overall well-being.

I also specialize in EMDR therapy.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective, evidence-based therapy for the treatment of trauma, PTSD and related issues. EMDR therapy incorporates side-to-side movement of one’s eyes in an approach that reprocesses and releases disturbing information trapped in one’s mind and body. It can free people from upsetting images, nightmares, body sensations, ,disturbing memories, debilitating emotions, and negative self beliefs.

Why do we all “get stuck” in unproductive patterns of behavior?

Our experiences in childhood, adolescence, and in our adult lives are extremely powerful and at the root of how we interact with others.  Unfortunately, the majority of our “instinctive” behavior will not move us towards a more fulfilling, peaceful and happy life.   In fact, they often keep us “stuck” in patterns that ensure our life will remain difficult.

How to build a better life?

If we want to have a better life tomorrow, we have to change the way we make decisions today. As Einstein said, “we can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”  While we can’t make life perfect, we can better understand ourselves and improve our life one good decision at a time.

Often our thoughts or difficult life challenges produce unpleasant feelings which create barriers to more fulfilling relationships and personal happiness. I work with my clients to better understand the root of their troublesome feelings and use them to make wiser choices going forward.  Understanding your own patterns of behavior will allow you to slowly transform your life.

You will learn to:

  • Increase your ability to respond effectively to challenging life situations by making calm, clear decisions instead of reacting with emotional impulses

  • Work towards creating more of what you want in life by clearly defining your goals & working towards them

  • Reduce unhealthy ways of coping with unpleasant feelings by choosing a balanced, healthy approach to living

  • Improve your relationships with others by putting up boundaries and teaching others how to treat you

  • Increase your focus on living in the present and enjoying the process by understanding that life is a learning experience

Psychotherapy should allow you to experience an enhanced sense of well being, increased feelings of confidence and empowerment, and an overall sense of satisfaction.  Regardless of the struggles you face, I will be with you each step of the way providing compassionate support, gentle guidance and uncompromising commitment to your healing and development. Ultimately, therapy can provide the foundation for the change you are seeking and have a profound effect on your life.
